Why this blog?

We are a family of 3 long-time vegetarians, living in the American south.  Mom's been a vegetarian since 1990 and the two daughters have been vegetarian their whole lives.

Recently, we've been interested in a more cruelty-free, plant-based lifestyle.   It's not happening overnight and we have some experimenting to do to figure out how to replace things we currently use with cruelty-free and vegan products.

We're writing this blog to share what we find.  We're not the only ones on this journey.

Someday, though, we'll be three vegans!

Some challenges ahead:

Hair color - looks like henna is the way to go but everything I've read looks complicated with uncertain results.  Target time frame, Labor Day weekend (2015).

Cosmetics - toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo, cream rinse, soap

Household cleaners - toilet bowl cleaner, bathroom cleaner, window cleaner, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent

Contact lenses - Do they test these on animals?

Eggs - EnerG Egg Replacer looks like a reasonable easily available substitute but our results so far have not been great.  We need to do some more experimentation

Yogurt - we use it in our smoothies every day

Cheese - we really love cheese

Dog food - is there an alternative?

Nutrient dense foods - how to create a balance

Time and Money - both in limited supply in our family.  Sometimes this pushes us to less healthy alternatives.
